Car description

This 1983 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 features a unique conversion by the now-defunct Auto Form Corporation, who converted hardtop F-bodies into these two-seater roadsters.

The Auto Form roadsters were custom-built to order starting in 1983. GM would drop ship a car to Auto Form, who would handle the conversion before shipping the car to the GM dealer, with a customer ready and waiting.

Auto Form took those factory-fresh F-bodies, and immediately cut the roofs off. A massive chassis brace was welded in behind the front seats, tying the floor and door sills together. Additionally, a bolt-in chassis brace was added under the car to help return rigidity -- as much as you could expect from a third-generation Camaro -- back into the chassis. The new hole was then capped with the custom two-layer fiberglass top you see, which used custom hinges in conjunction with the original hatchback's lift struts to open, allowing a small convertible roof to be manually closed over the front seats. What's unique with the Auto Form conversion, compared to most of these third-party conversions, is that it is a manual convertible top. When the manual top is down, it folds into a compartment where the rear seats once resided. 1983 was the premier of the Camaro Roadster conversion. I have been told that there are less than a dozen 83s still on the road today.. here is your chance to own one of them.

Though the company is now gone, it's estimated that only a fewer than 1,000 were ever produced, between 1983 and 1987, both in Camaro z28 and Trans AM/Firebird forms. The original conversions cost around $5,500, or about $13,000 in today's dollars, adjusting for inflation -- nearly a third of the third-generation Z28's original purchase price.

This beauty has a fresh 84 z28-305 Chevy small block, with a mild cam and new 4BRL carb (not a crossfire injected). Recently tuned with real dual exhaust, and it sounds amazing. This roadster has a new radiator, alternator, brakes, water pump, hoses, belts, plugs, wires and distributor. I would not hesitate to jump in and drive to Chicago or NYC right now.

I don't have to sell it... so what you see is what you get ..This is sold as is where is with no warranty implied or stated.. Take my word for it if you miss this one there is a good chance you'll not find another unless you run in to me again because I have another one of the twelve that I am in the process of restoring and I am keeping one.
