Car description

If you grew up in the '80s, the IROC was the machine to own for prowling the streets looking for a race. Today, finding one in solid, original condition that hasn't been pounded into the ground or questionably modified in someone's backyard is virtually impossible. Fortunately, this 1986 Chevrolet Camaro IROC Z/28 is such a car. Highly original save for a repaint a few years ago, this car will help you relive the days when gas was under $1.00 and horsepower was cheap.Yes, a lot of these cars got repaints, but the finish on this car duplicates the original high-gloss black, and all the graphics, including the stripes and IROC-Z lettering, have been accurately reproduced. As a result, it looks exactly right and like a great survivor, with the glossy paint shaving years off its age. In fact, having seen what these cars looked like new, it might even be safe to say that the repaint will hold up better than the original stuff and certainly has a great shine. There's none of the factory orange peel, blotchy metallic, and cloudy clearcoat that characterized GM's paint in the '80s. The two-stage urethane is shiny and uniform, the clear is, well, clear, and it's obvious that someone took a lot of time and effort to get the details just right. Sure, there are a few nicks on the chin and behind the wide tires, but that's to be expected. Nevertheless, it won't be easy finding a nicer early IROC than this.Inside, the car sports a beautiful original interior that supports the mileage claims, making it one of the cleanest 3rd generation Camaros we've seen in a long time. The tan fabric is comfortable and perfect for cruising, and the two types of fabric used on the seats give them a very stylish look that works well even today. Original door panels remain in good condition and the trunk area wears the same tan carpets as the rest of the interior, all of which are in very good shape. IROCs typically came loaded with accessories and options, and this one includes power seats, windows, and locks, A/C, a tilt steering column, cruise control, and a rear defogger. It still carries its original AM/FM/cassette stereo system with a power antenna, plus a full complement of gauges, including the 145 MPH speedometer that was a late production addition that was very welcome.1986 IROCs had a choice of engines, but the top of the line was the LB9 TPC 5.0 liter V8. Electronic fuel injection was in its infancy, but it delivered impressive torque, and as history has shown it's reliable and tunable. It starts with a modest rumble from the exhaust system, and idles like it has a bit of an attitude, although the LG4 camshaft was designed to make the engine as user-friendly as possible. It pulls hard, makes great V8 noises, and the 4-speed automatic is a great companion, just stomp and steer. Out back there's a 2.73 cog in the rear end, making this an extremely capable high-speed cruiser that pulls down decent fuel economy, especially for a modern muscle car. The IROC's handling is impeccable, the chassis is incredibly clean, and it wears fat 245/50/16 tires on the original IROC alloys, which remain in excellent condition. Go ahead, try to find a nicer, unmolested, unabused IROC. Or you can simply give us a call and take this one home today!
