They only made a certain number of REAL SS Camaro in 1969, although the world sure has seen quite a few more than they ever produced!
This 1969 Chevy Camaro proudly wears its trim tag stating it to be an X22 Style Trim Group SS 396 car, and is equipped as it was from the factory right down to the Hugger Orange paint!
The body is clean, straight and solid, and a full body-on restoration was contracted by the previous owner of 20 years in 2014, and has been driven just about 8,000 miles since then.
You can take a 4x4 inch felt covered magnet and toss it at the car and it will stick wherever you see orange paint!
Light fill has been used sparingly on the car just like they did in the factory, but you can tell from the photos that the panels are clean, straight, true, and not wavy and there are no cut lines or seams evident on the exterior either.
Gaps are really good, and alignment of the hood, trunk, and doors is exceptionally good, Doors do not droop and shut and open with ease.
As you can see in the photos, the Hugger Orange paint is in excellent condition, and save for a handful of truly minor marks like a stone chip or other small blemish, is show-ready right now, even without being detailed!
Worst marks on the car are highlighted in the photos, with the scratch on the underside of the passenger side rear quarter being the worst.
It is glossy, slick, and wet looking, and displays no bubbling, cracking, checking, or other issues typically found on lower-quality cars.
The car was a body-on resto, so the door jambs, and door inners wear the original Hugger Orange paint.
The correct, trim tag specified Black Vinyl top is like new, and has no damage or faded areas.
All of the stainless and chrome on the car is in exceptionally good condition, with no known issues or flaws to present.
Emblems are clean, neat, and show wonderfully.
The black striping on the car is in very good condition, with no issues or damage.
Rear black tail panel is in exceptional condition, as is the SS badge in its center.
Lower front bumper pan is in very good condition with exceptional fit and alignment, and the driving lamps are clean and undamaged.
Black lower spoiler is clean and undamaged, but does have light scuffing from parking curbs over the years. Most of the marks may come out when you detail the car, and I have taken close-up photos of it so you can see the extent.
Grill and head lamp surrounds are in excellent condition, and show wonderfully with fantastic fit.
Rear spoiler looks great, and has fantastic fit as well.
It rolls on BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires for improved handling and safer long-haul driving. They have about 8,000 miles on them, and probably 70% of the useable tread life remaining. They have even wear and no damage.
They are mounted on Rally wheels with polished trim rings and center caps, all of which look fantastic, and have no signs of damage or disrepair.
Rocker trim, wheel-well trim, and side gills all look fantastic, and show no signs of damage or issues.
The car was previously registered and insured in Michigan, but has spent the last 15 years at the prior owners Florida home as a seasonal use car. It was stored in a climate and humidity controlled garage on a lift with the other vehicles in his collection, which allowed it to stay so nice all this time.
The interior on the car is in very good, very original condition, with a few modern items added for convenience sake.
The car is equipped with the correct black vinyl bucket seats which are in very good condition, and retain the fore-aft movement and flip-forward functionality they were made with. There is no sign of rips, tears, seam pulls, or any other issues.
Rear seat is of the same quality, and show as though no one ever accessed it.
Kick panels, side panels, door panels, and pillar covering all look to be in very good condition, with only light normal use marks if anything.
Carpeting is correct, clean, and shows well, with light normal wear thanks to the included front floor mats, which show heavier normal wear from protecting the carpet. It is held down on the sides by proper FISHER BODY sill plates.
The shift arm, boot, trim ring, and cue ball are all in very good condition.
Seat belts are original, and fully functional throughout the car.
Dash is clean, neat, and shows no sign of damage. All of the switches, slides, and controls appear to be factory original, and have light patina if anything.
Steering wheel is the correct wood grain SS logo unit the car was born with, and it is in good condition, with no damage and just light wear from normal use and age.
Pedals are matching and fully functional including the E-Brake.
A column mounted Tachometer is functional, and has a shift light system that works as well. It can be easily removed for a more stock look thanks to an unobtrusive mounting style.
The same can be said for the under dash trio of gauges to monitor WATER TEMP, OIL PRESSURE, and VOLTS. They are all functional, but they can removed with just two small screw on the underside of the dash for a stock appearance.
ASTRO-VENTILATION controls work as they should, and the glovebox locks and unlocks and has a clean liner inside for storage.
The factory AM-FM stereo even works, and picks up more channels than most modern cars thanks to the external mast antenna.
Head lights work, hi beams work, parking lights work, tail lights work, reverse lights work, brake lights work, wipers work, hazards work, and the turn signals work.
Headliner is OEM style, and is clean, fitted, and damage free.
The dome light works like it should.
Visors are clean and issue free as well, and do not droop.
Door pulls and window rollers are in good condition, and work perfectly.
Key locks the doors from outside as it should, and the inside pull locks function as they should as well.
Glass is clean and clear throughout the car, with no cracks or chips, and only a few light marks to be found from years on the road.
Rubber trim, weather stripping, moldings, and seals are all recent to the restoration, and show to be soft, pliable, and fully functional.
Dash is crack and damage free, and looks great from the face to the top.
Under the hood lurks the heart of this beast, which is a 396/375hp L78 motor.
The engine info decodes as follows:
ENGINE NUMBER T1114JD
T-TONAWANDA
11-NOVEMBER
14-14TH BUILD DAY
JD-1969 CHEVELLE 396/375hp MANUAL TRANS SPECIAL HIGH PERF.
.
ENGINE STAMPING: 19B324882
BLOCK NUMBER: 3955272
***This denotes a 1969 396/375hp L78***
HEADS: 3919840
***This denotes 1967-1969 closed-chamber 107cc L78 Heads***
TRANSMISSION: 3925660 – Muncie 4-speed
CARB is a HOLLEY 3310-3 750cfm unit.
The intake on this car is an Edelbrock Air-Gap unit.
During the restoration, the engine was bored .60 over, and the pistons were replaced with TRW 2240 .60 over an 9.5 compression.
Camshaft was replaced with a Comp Cams solid roller kit.
It has an HEI ignition system and HOOKER competition headers that feed into a custom exhaust with resonator mufflers that give it an incredibly good sound at idle, and a vicious bark under acceleration.
This engine build has just about 8,000 miles on it since completion, and runs and performs without issue.
Starting is easy, idle is clean with a nice lope from the cam upgrade.
Throttle response is snappy and quick, and the car responds to your right foots input without a stutter or misstep.
The Munice snicks into gear with ease, and clutch feel is sure and strong, with just the right take-up before movement begins.
Row through the gears, and the car leaps ahead at each shift, ready for more power and faster speeds.
The GM 12 Bolt rear is a 4.10 Posi Unit that is great fun in town and on the back roads, but is not ready to tackle 80mph freeway trips. A simple R&P swap would let you cruise to your hearts content if that is your goal.
To keep the car tracking straight and make it more fun to drive, a set of HOTCHKIS Frame Connectors and Slide-A-Link Traction Bars were installed on the car. They make a huge difference in launch and drivability, but if you don’t like them, you can easily remove them.
Quick Ratio Power Steering makes the car handle wonderfully, and takes away the typical slop and play found in most of the older muscle cars.
Factory correct power brakes are a disc front/drum rear system that works wonderfully, and is perfectly proportioned to avoid any pulling, excess fade, or wander.
Ride is smooth enough for enjoyable trips to the next town, but has enough stiffness to make curvy roads and red light launches a whole lot of fun.
Chassis itself is clean, solid, and real metal. There are no signs of any holes, patched repairs, or issues, and the light undercoating was applied sometime prior to the 20 years ago the previous owner purchased the car. It is not gloppy and thick, and appears to be about the consistency of the older Ziebart sprays I have seen over the years. It hides nothing, and you can see from the photos and video that the pans and chassis are just clean, real, and show signs of being driven for 8,000 miles.
You can clearly see the pinch welds on the car, as well as the solid pans. There is dirt and water spray on it from being driven. Any oxidation on bolts is simply service oxidation that would whisk away with a wire brush.
There are no known mechanical, functional, handling, braking, starting, or stopping quirks with the car, and I have personally put about 200 miles on it prior to taking the photos today and preparing the listing.
The OPTIMA Battery was installed in May of 2015, and has been maintained on a trickle charger since.
It runs cool, and stays at about 185 most of the time, although it did creep up to 198 on a trip down to the beach in 40 minute stop and go traffic. Not bad for 98 degree summer day!
The engine area is clean and neat, but no overly detailed. Chrome is all shiny and bright, and the overall appearance is enough to make you proud to open your hood at any car show or event.
The trunk is clean, neat, and issue free, and has the correct style plaid plastic liner on it.
Overall, this is an extremely nice, straight, and clean show quality car that has the added bonus of being an exceptional driving machine as well.
It comes to you serviced and ready to drive and enjoy, and has (1) one trunk key, (1) one ignition key, and an original 1969 owner manual in plastic wrapping.
Trim tag is intact on the firewall, but I do NOT have a build sheet.
IT HAS A CLEAN AND CLEAR TITLE AS A 1969 CHEVY CAMARO.
MILEAGE IS LISTED AS EXEMPT ON THE TITLE. FUNCTIONAL ODOMETER SHOWS 01023, WHICH IS BELIEVED TO REPRESENT 101,023.
