1971 SS LS5 Chevelle

Passing Lane Motors, LLC,

St. Louis's Premier Classic Car Dealer,

Is pleased to offer this 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle SS LS5 for sale. This 1971 Chevelle is Fully restored; With build Sheet, Vin Plate, and Cowl Tag original never removed.

If you have ever dreamed of owning one of the rarest and most beautiful Muscle cars ever produced by GM, we are giving that opportunity to one very lucky person! Just imagine yourself to be able to be viewed by everyone you drive by in the impeccable 71 SS LS5 Chevelle! There are many more SS’s now than where ever produced so to know that you have a true SS with build sheet and registry puts you at the level very few will be able to obtain. This SS is back to it’s original birth color and what the build sheet says running gear.

Car was purchased in the local St. Louis area and milage is believed to be true, the car was turned into a bracket racer and was not driven on a daily basis. No way to prove this but the car was incredibly clean and rust free with almost ever inch of factory sheet metal rust free and intact. When we pulled the factory original vinyl top off, we could not believe the condition of the steel beneath it. Not even any rust around the window moldings! When the car was purchased the previous owner said it to be a real LS5 but had no proof. The fuel gauge had quit working so when we went to repair the sending unit we dropped the tank and there was the original build sheet! This car has since been added to the Chevelle Historic LS5 Registry. The only one currently know from Arlington Texas with all its accessories. After finding such a rare pedigree it was decided that we would undertake a full restoration. At first we considered doing a frame off but after extensively examine the undercarriage of this Chevelle it was decided to not touch it, it couldn’t have been cleaner and more well preserved. So we sanded off any surface defects and applied a etching primer to preserve its historic correctness.

As mentioned earlier the engine appears to be original and have been rebuilt, during that process the block had been decked and rebuilt. The engine had been bored out and had a high rise intake manifold added and headers. We Took extensive time to locate the correct carburetor, intake, exhaust Manifolds, Air cleaner, Cowl hood actuators and correctly install all the for-mentioned parts to their factor specs. Do to the valve clearance we added spacers so we could put the correct factory valve covers on the engine.

The original TH400 was still in the car but the previous owner had turned it into a reverse manual valve body and was beyond the point of restoring, so a new TH400 had been installed and shifts beautifully.

The RU coded LS5 rear end was still in the car, we rebuilt the entire rear end, all new gears, posi unit, pinion bearings.

The front end of the car was still in good shape but showing some wear, so we tore the entire front end out of the car and replace all parts. Now the entire front end is new and when driving the car you can tell just how beautifully it drives and handles.

The entire brake system was replaced from the master cylinder out, all lines, calipers, backing plates, wheel cylinders, drums, rotors, and even the rear pads. The brake system works perfectly.

The exterior of the Chevelle was in great condition and even the factory original paint looked good! We decided that a car this nice deserved a new face lift. The car was sanded down to bare metal, the vinyl top was removed and all trim pieces where either replace or reconditioned. We repainted the car back to its original color and trim. In doings so we did not have to disassemble the car, all factory lines are still present. The doors have never been off this vehicle and shut great. The hood and the deck lid where removed for ease of painting and installing all the new Cowl Hood vent pieces. And of course the lines are exceptional.

This Chevelle was a factory air car, so to restore the air to the car and not cover up the beautiful engine, it was decided to pull the factory air box (which is included with the car) replacing it with a new Vintage air system for a cleaner look and more dependable service. The entire interior of the car has also been extensively restored to is factory original brilliance. All gauges are clear and in functioning condition. The console is a correct and original 71 console with any part showing wear either replaced or reconditioned.

Also as mentioned earlier this Chevelle was not Frame off, as we didn't have to. The car was fabulous and unbelievably solid underneath.

Some Highlights about this car include:

Original case rear end RU code LS5 3:33

All new rear end, all bearings, seals, ring and pinion, Posi unit.

The bottom was cleaned sanded down and painted with etching primmer.

The engine is solid and runs fantastic, believed to be the correct engine, but is has been decked so no Vin.
