Car description

1936 Buick Special

Back in the year when Errol Flynn immortalized Robin Hood, when Walt Disney dazzled the world with Snow White, when Glenn Miller music was coming into full swing, and Bingo was becoming the latest rage, the 1936 Buick Special was just about the most exciting thing this side of Lana Turner's sweater closet!

This 1936 mid-size Buick entry level vehicle is a smooth running vehicle that the consigner has used with virtually no mechanical problems. A ride around the Classic Auto Mall complex was wonderfully comfortable, with sounds of a 30's classic car transmission going up through the gears, as well as cushy suspension made it a pleasurable experience.

Exterior
A two-tone tan and brown motif covers the exterior, and then some! The chrome grille, hood ornament, and wheels have all been painted over. Some brite work remains on the bumpers, door handles, faux hood vents, and headlamps. Panels are fairly straight, with some body filler seen on areas, and pieces of brite work are missing on the fenders. White sidewall tires and two-tone painted wheels are seen all around.

Interior
A brown mohair overstuffed buttoned bench seat are in front, and in back. A mohair headliner is present and in good condition. Door panels original to the car are not installed, and some of the cranks and door openers need attention. Panels are in poor condition. Flooring appears solid, and is not covered with any carpeting etc. A nice cream painted dash with a rectangular speedometer, gauge cluster all in one, is painted in the Art Deco style. Lots of vertical and horizontal chrome ribs adorn the dash, and well as a square clock on the passenger's side glovebox. A white gear shift knob and a banjo steering wheel (both unrestored) sit in front of the dash.

Drivetrain
The Buick straight 8 shoehorns into a clean engine bay. This has 248ci and is attached to a manual 3-speed transmission which sings to you as you go down the road.

Undercarriage
Surface rust as expected but no real structural potential problems are seen. Body mount areas, floorpans, and frame appear solid. It appears that a new fuel tank has been installed, however this was not confirmed by the consigner.

Originally used as a payoff for as roofing job the consigner took on and the homeowner could not pay, so he gave him this car. Consigner states he did little to no work to it and just drove and enjoyed it. Certainly not anywhere near fully restored, nice paint, and good engine, but needs work. Close to what would be considered a barn find, here is a project for someone who is fascinated by a Buick.
