Car description

1940 Buick Roadmaster
~California Barn find~Out of a 300 Car collection~Has been in storage for the last 44 years~California time capsule; you or I cannot duplicate this carthey are only original onceNO RESERVE

When it comes to vintage automobiles, California and the West Coast of the United States have always been the most desirable the world over for many reasons; the mild climate and the fact that many automotive trends started in California. The automobile is the perfect technological symbol of American culture, a tangible expression of our quest to level space, time, and class and a reflection of our relentless mobility, social and otherwise. You see automobiles advertised the world over described as California cars because at some point they were in California or drove through California. A true California car is one that was sold new in California and titled in California, one that has the original plates that are on that title is a true California car.We are liquidating a collection of 300 actual California cars. This is a collection that took 70 years to comprise. Most have the original paint and original California licence plates issued to them when they were new.

Up for a NO RESERVE auction is a stunning 1940 Buick Roadmaster. 1940 was a new year for Buick featuring the cutting edge "torpedo" C body. The car was featured more room inside for the occupants but overall was a smaller more streamlined vehicle .While most '40 Buicks were available in September 1939, these models only hit showrooms the following March and production lasted just about four months. With their new "torpedo" styling, Gosden says, "the delay was in the tooling-up of body stampings, as these cars were much lower and wider than the other Buick series.”For some perspective this 79 year old car was built a few years before the Japanese bombed Pearl harbor and was put into storage a year before the US pulled out of Vietnam. This is a California survivor that has spent more time sitting in a climate controlled warehouse than it did driving on the streets, which is evident by the condition of the car. The original 1940 yellow California license plates were turned in in 1963 when the mandatory 6 digit black plates came out. This Buick still both California black plates that were issued in 1963. The car also still has an old Independent insurance sticker on the rear bumper. The 1940 Buick Roadmaster bodystyle was only in production for 2 years before war time production took over. Being that was 79 years ago this Buick would be a hard car to go out and find another one just like it.
Cosmetically this Buick is in great shape for 79 years old and is truly a piece of art. The body is very straight and has no rust of any kind. The paint looks and shines nicely. Most of the paint is original paint, there are some areas of the fender that appear to have been fogged in many years ago. 79 years is a long time and overall the paint is in great shape considering it was painted before the WWII had begun. The chrome bumpers and trim pieces are original and in great shape. The lights are all functional including the rear turn signals hidden in the Buick emblem on the trunk. Nothing is missing an everything is original.
The interior in this Roadmaster is in remarkable shape. Starting with dash board which is a work of art in its own right. The wood and metalwork come together perfectly. The detail in materials from the gauges to the different wood designs is something you just don't see in anything else other than a car like this. The steering wheel is another item with intricate designs and condition you don't see anywhere else. The headliner is in perfect shape with no tears or sagging. 79 year old fabrics tend to degenerate with time these seats been reupholstered as well as the back seat carpet is not original. Other than that everything is original in the interior and nothing is missing.
Mechanically this Buick is in good working order. The 320cid Fireball 8 starts up and runs like it should. You can shift in all gears smoothly. The car has some torque and rides very smoothly down the road. Brakes work like they should. All the lights work as well as the radio.

NO RESERVE THIS ITEM WILL SELL TO THE FINAL BIDDER!This listing includes well over 100 detailed photos and the vehicle has been described as descriptive as possible. Please rememberthis is a 79 year old car and has been stored properly for decades. If there is anything that is unclear or additional information is is need please don't hesitate to ask. Please ask any questions before bidding. Please only bid with intentions to own, bidders who bid then cancel because they "entered the wrong amount" will be blocked from further bidding.
