Car description

BMW M6 .

The BMW M6 is quite impressive now compared to modern performance vehicles but back in 1988 when the car was new, it was like nothing else out there. In a field of its own –there was no competition. These highly engineered cars were stunning to look at with sharp design lines and radical features that were unheard of in the 80s.Performance was substantial with 0-60 times logged at 6.1 secs and advanced handling characteristics. The M6was the second fastest BMW ever built at 158mph – only the equally rare M1coupe boasts higher maximum speed. There were only 1,632 M6s shipped into the US and these cars were only available during the 1987 and 1988 model years.

So this 1988 M6 is relatively rare – and it is very rare in the Royal Blue Metallic. The interior is super clean with awesome tan natural leather. This car is decked out with full power sport seats, manual rear sunshade, rear A/C (both front and rear air conditioners run nice and cold), sunroof, premium stereo, front and rear spoilers, fog lights and power windows. It is truly a work of art and will undoubtedly continue to appreciate in the future.

I am the 3rd owner of this M6. It has always been garaged and has never seen the snow/ice or salt. The 2ndowner also used my mechanic and he (the mechanic) stated that the car was serviced on a regular basis and the owner took great care to keep it maintained in excellent condition.

The car has been driven just 86,000 miles. I am only selling it because I am moving to CA and unfortunately have limited garage space. My loss – your gain!

Some History:

The iconic ‘shark nosed’ E24 maintained the silhouette of the classic CS, but it was far larger, wider and modern. Where comparing the CS to the E324, the stylistic evolution is reminiscent of the how the Dino evolved into the larger Ferrari 308/328. The 6 series ultimately became BMW’s flagship model of the 1980s. Launched in Europe as the M635CSi at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 1983, it went on sale with the 1984 model year. When it finally made it to America – as a catalyzed version – it was the 1987 model and marketed as the M6. There were only two model years sold in the US – the 1987 and 1988.The 1988 model was a universal model and it shared the smaller European bumpers and this makes it the more desirable model year.

In 1987, Car & Driver wrote:

“The BMW M6 is one of those wild, wonderful cars that throw the scales of automotive justice totally off balance. This car doesn’t make any sense, for three important reasons: money, money, and money. Average folks just can’t understand spending $58,720 for anything that doesn’t have at least two bedrooms. Car guys rightly point out that you can get this brand of supercar performance for a heck of a lot less. The M6 shouldn’t generate the rave reviews that it does —but it does, and we love it".

The M6 is slowly emerging as the holy grail of first-generation BMW M-cars. It is a collectible car for many reasons — all of them legitimate. With the exception of the M1 supercar, the U.S.-spec M6 was the first consumer M-car for the North American market.

The hand-built M88 motor is dynamic and shares DNA with the M1. The timeless styling of the E24 is slowly maturing, and it’s aging well. The M6 is starting to occupy a place of stature among the small and exclusive club of collectible post-war BMWs.
