The BMW Isetta was built from 1955 to 1962. It was wildly popular due to being one of the most usable microcars on the market at that time. Plus, t easily got 50mpg at 50mph from its 300cc 4-stroke motor (no oil mixing with gasoline required). As an alternate to scooters, his was a much more civilized way to get around town. Nearly 60-years later, hese tiny cars have caught the attention of collectors. Along with the Messerschmitts and Fiat Jollys, he Isettas have continued to grow in value. Although parts are plentiful, he restoration costs can become quite staggering, aking concours level examples with low miles exceedingly rare finds.

This example has a remarkable verified history. It was imported new by Goodwin Motorcycle Center in Lincoln, ebraska (official BMW dealer) where it sat in their showroom for years until the dealership closed. The first owner lived in Polk County, owa and decided to purchase the Isetta for his son to commute to college. In 1969, e found the advertisement for the car in their local Omaha World Herald newspaper (see attached pic). The car was being advertised with only 65 original miles.

The son did not drive the car much. He put less than 3,000-miles on it over a few years and ended up parking the car between his house and the neighbor’s. It wouldn’t be driven from the mid ‘70’s until recently. The recent owner (2nd owner) saw the car parked there in the late 1970’s. He tried to buy it from the original owner with no luck. Eventually the houses it was sitting next to got torn down and the Isetta disappeared for a couple decades. It reappeared in the 90’s in a nearby neighborhood. The 2nd owner tried again to purchase the car from the original owner, ut he wouldn’t sell it. Both did keep in touch over the years at that point. Finally, n June 29th, 006, he original owner sold the car to the 2nd owner with a documented 2,950 original miles.

Upon closer inspection, he miles were verified to be original and although the car sat outside for sometime and was cosmetically a bit tired (see pics), he body and chassis were very straight with no rust. For the next couple of years, his owner (who is a licensed private detective by profession) investigated and researched the complete history. He documented everything in a legal/signed affidavit that is notarized. He was able to get a signed affidavit from the original owner as well as a copy of the sales receipt. He was very diligent in helping document the original miles and history of this rare example.

The next step was to begin the restoration. He hired a local restoration expert named Owen White of Ainsworth, owa. The restoration took nearly 2-years. It was a full nut and bolt/frame off job. It is a high quality concours level restoration. The build was fully photo documented (see pics).

The condition of this Isetta is like new. It is nearly perfect. The body looks fantastic with minimal signs of use. There are just a few very minor paint flaws we found (see pics). The interior is equally fresh with hardly any signs of use (only 11-miles since restoration).

This microcar starts with ease and shifts nicely through the gears. It is a fun alternative to a Moped although it certainly does draw a lot of attention.

This BMW Isetta comes with the previously mentioned affidavits, arts catalog, owa license plate, estoration photos, nd an extra key.

The current California registration is good until December of 2016.
