Car description

1939 Austin 8 Tourer
Pre War Civilian Model
1 of 4 USA Export LHD Models
This was the first year for the Austin 8, replacing the hugely successful but antiquated A7. When England entered WW2 in 1939, civilian production ceased with A8's manufactured for military use only. These cars had extremely hard use and very few survived ( less then 55 Military Tourer's and 45 Civilian RHD Models. When civilian production of the A8 resumed after the war, only closed sedans were offered, making the open tourer an extremely rare automobile. It is estimated that only approximately 4 LHD cars exist according to the Austin 8 Registry.
-----
-----My example was believed to have been brought back to the USA by a returning soldier, and saw many years as a vacation home vehicle on Long Island NY
All export cars and military car had the solid 16inch wheels as pictured.
This rare Austin is in running condition ( see video below ) I drove the car down my street to take photos and ran good and stops well. The fuel is old and recommend cleaning the tank. Smoked a little at startup but clears up after 5-10min of run time. I think with some weekend work if would be a great car to used as is or rebuild and restore as needed. Most parts are available as there was alot of Austin 4-door made and most parts are interchangeable.
Interior is worn but shows great patina. Center of the steering wheel is missing. The convertible top was replaced and looks great. Older side curtains are included and are older but still work as intended. Floors have been replaced.
Exterior of the car shows some where but still looks great from 10ft away, Upon closer inspection you can find some imperfections. Bumpers need some repair but again a great driver quality Toy to have fun with or restore in the future if wanted.
