1962 Austin Cooper, ancestor of the current Mini Cooper

I have a 1962 Austin Cooper for sale. This is not the "S" model, t least so far as the emblems on the car are concerned. The car is not currently running. I obtained it recently without an engine or transaxle and obtained a power unit from a 1981 Mini. This 1000 cc engine came from a running, riving car whose owner upgraded to a 1275 cc engine. It is under the hood of the car, ut is not connected.

The transaxles will require modification to work. The 1962 axles have splined ends which go through the brake drums to power the car and are held in place with castle nuts. The 1981 axles are splined but are not threaded on the ends for turning the brake drums but were done in a different manner. They are held on the ends with c-clips. On the other end (transaxle end), he 62 axles are held by U-joints while the 82 axles are the more modern ball bearing types.

This car has some damage to the fiberglass front end, hich I was told was not original anyway; it should have had steel fenders. But replacement fiberglass fenders are available through aftermarket companies. The floors in the car are VERY good, ith no rust holes. The interior is also in good condition with only a 3" split in the driver's seat, long one of the seams. The back "seat" is also very nice. All the glass is good.

There are quite a number of spare parts that will go with the car. The 81 engine has a single carb (with K&N filter) and there is a dual carb manifold with carbs and air cleaner base. The 81 engine has a header and there is also an extra one, long with an extra head from the original power unit. The 81 engine also has an alternator and negative ground starter. A positive ground starter and original generator is included as well. These extra parts will help someone that wants to restore this great little car to original. All the tires, ncluding the spare, re in "like new" condition on 10 inch wheels.

If the one-way distance is more than 350 miles, need to charge an additional $50.00 per 350 miles for lodging. For example, he distance from Kingston, isconsin to Nashville, ennessee is 678 miles. The transport charge for this trip is $1695 plus $50 for one night's lodging, or a total of $1745. If more information is needed, lease inquire prior to the end of the auction.

This is a MKI. The Mini was made from 1959-2000 and the MKI was from 1959-1967, ccording to what I've found. This is a pretty early car.
