Car description

1974 AMC Matador CoupeUp for auction is a 1974 AMC Matador Coupe with a 258 I6. I've spent the last six months investing a lot of time and money in this car. It has lots of new parts. runs excellently. and has an excellent interior. The body is in good shape. but does have some dings and rust issues that will need to be addressed before the car can be perfect. Here's what I've done to the car:EngineRuns very well. All tune up items (plugs. wires. cap. rotor. PCV valve. thermostat. radiator cap. all fluids and filters) have been changed. Converted to electronic ignition with Pertronix Ignitor II and Flamethrower II coil. Rebuilt carburetor. Refurbished radiator with upgrade to 3 core. All new belts and hoses. New valve cover gasket. New exhaust manifold. New exhaust system from manifold to tailpipe. New timing chain set. front main seal. and timing chain cover gasket. New oil sending unit and temperature sending unit. New battery with new cables. Gas tank cleaned and painted. with NOS rubber filler neck and new gas cap. Suspension/SteeringHandles as good as new. New coil springs and shocks. front and rear. All new rubber bushings (upper and lower control arms. front and rear. as well as spring seat bushings. sway bar. and strut bar bushings). All new ball joints. tie rod ends (inner and outer). Pitman arm. and idler arm. Car has been professionally aligned and the steering box adjusted (by a local shop. not a chain) to remove some play. Brand new tires. I have the "poverty" hub caps on the car: I have a set of AMC full wheel covers that will go with the car. Handles and rides well!BrakesStops like new. All new brake components. front and rear (all new wheel bearings. rotors. calipers. pads. and pins up front. all new drums. shoes. wheel cylinders. and hardware in back). New front brake hoses. New hard lines and center hose in the rear. InteriorInterior is in excellent shape. Only the front part of the carpet (in the front footwells) needs to be replaced. Other than that. the interior is really great. All gauges and dash lights work. I installed an AMC AM radio. but it needs to be hooked up. There are factory speakers in the rear parcel shelf. Dash. headliner. and rear parcel shelf are perfect. Door panels are very good. All windows. locks. and handles work. Car has A/C: everything is hooked up and the compressor cycles on. but it doesn't blow cold. The heater works. as do the vent controls and the fan. BodyPaint is decent. but does have blemishes. The body has two minor dents: one in the driver's door. and the other on the lower part of the front fender. The doors and trunk lid open and close fine. The chrome is decent: the front bumper chrome is OK. the rear has rust issues. but I have an NOS chrome bumper cover that will go with the car. The hood opens and closes fine. but needs alignment. and the driver's side hood spring needs repair (as is common on these cars). There are some rust issues in the lower fender wells that need to be fixed. There is a small area of rust-through on the passenger-side frame rail that should be repaired. The trunk is in good shape (a previous owner painted it). and comes with the original jack and hardware. All exterior lights work. and the lenses are in good shape. A previous owner replaced the front passenger side marker lamp with an incorrect unit: I have a correct lens and housing that will go with the car. These cars are getting rarer. and I've spent a lot of time and money getting this one roadworthy. I drive it to work (100-mile round trip) occasionally. and it runs great on the freeway. The buyer will get a very good car for far less money than I've invested in it. Good luck. and feel free to ask any questions.
