Car description

With big power, four-on-the-floor, a high degree of originality, and absolute rarity, this 1969 AMC AMX is the kind of classic muscle machine that will always have distinction and desirability. Those initial few years when the AMX was its own wheelbase was truly magical. They created an American grand touring coupe with a long hood and an elegant fastback style. And this also shows off one of the most thoughtful designs from Dick Teague. Crisp fender lines, a...flying buttress rear, and chrome bumpers that are integrated into the overall design - this is a very elegant car. So we're happy to see it looking so straight and complete. But sophistication also has an immediate sense of speed. The large chin spoiler, double power bulges in the hood, dual racing stripes, flared fenders, and Mag wheels with redline tires make this a classic that instantly announces it's a muscle machine. As an original AMX, there's only seating for two people, but they get plenty of space and comfort. Bucket seats, crisp door panels, and a nice dash pad all look nice rendered in a muscle car friendly black. Plus, this shade is a nice complement to the wood paneling accenting the doors and dash. You get a great chrome and wood three-spoke sports steering wheel that still utilizes the American Motors logo in the center. Behind that, the instruments housed in deep individual pods that give the speedo and tach a hint of European sophistication. And as you look over the whole interior, you get a great period-correct feeling that goes right down to the factory AM radio that's still on display. When you pop the hood, you see AMC's big 390 cubic-inch V8. As a true X-code car, it's great to see the largest available AMX motor still in the engine bay. And it really looks quite correct with the glossy turquoise block, correct decals, and the correct air topper. Not only do the belts and wires look good, but you even have an aluminum radiator, so you know this has been cared for correctly to be a driver's machine. The four-barrel carburetor lets this AMX inhale deeply, and it exhales with authority out of the dual exhaust. Best of all, you get full control over this V8 and its powerful soundtrack thanks to the four-speed manual transmission. And while this is a great muscle car, you'll also enjoy nice anytime driving features such as the power steering and front disc brakes. AMC only produced around 8,300 AMXs in 1969, and how many do you think survived to look this good? When something so unique and powerful is up for grabs, you know you need to hurry on this deal.
