Car description

A Genuine Barn Find - well, almost.
This car belongs to my Father's dear friend who is old, can't use a computer and forgot he had a car in storage. No, really!
Looking at the storage paperwork, this has been in storage for over 20 years, never moved, never touched, and has 20 years of dust on it. It was definitely driven into the storage facility, while he was deployed overseas, but on his return he divorced, moved on with his life, and both parties thought the other had possession of the car. It gets worse, as the storage fees mounted, but were paid by their trust account, costing well over $30,000 for a car that is clearly not worth even close to this! You really could not make this up.
The car is legally his (this part was never in dispute) but the title and other paperwork has long since been lost. A bill of sale can be given of course, and any other assistance to title and register the car, but the car comes with no title - just to be clear. eBay will not allow the title status to be blank - so I classed it as salvage, but it will not come with a salvage title.
When I assisted with the movement of the car (the car dolly is mine) the car moved surprisingly easily - I put some air in the tires and pushed it outside by myself!
The car is in below average condition - there is no doubt about this. The roof is ripped, the interior is way below average, but the dashboard and gauges all appear pretty good, and the trim is certainly serviceable.
The exterior remains covered in dust. I am scared to power wash it - as who knows what will occur with a 3200psi water jet! But other than the expected rust on the rockers and sills, it seems all together - nothing that obvious or concerning.
The engine is of unknown status currently. Again, the car was driven in to the storage facility, but it has not been even turned over for 20 years. When I popped it in 4th gear and pushed it the engine does turn, so it is certainly not seized, but I would suggest it will need more than a new battery to get this thing going.
All the original engine and VIN tags are intact, and everything else is pretty much as per the photos. This would either be a outstanding parts car for a fellow spider builder, or indeed a contender for restoration - but I would think that it would be a major job to restore.
The car is available for viewings in the Washington DC area, with a 22101 zip code. I can of course assist with loading onto transport.
I have started the auction at $1. I think it may be worth slightly more than this (!) but it is anything but concours. Please bid to win, I have no desire to relist due to non-paying bidders. Deposit within 24 hours of auction end please and full payment within 7 days. Collection is by mutual arrangement, as I relize we car into the Holiday Season now.
